Henrietta Chamber Announces Distinguished Business Award Winners

The Henrietta Chamber’s 22nd Annual Community of Excellence Awards program, held on May 6, honored several Henrietta organizations and individuals for achievements in business excellence, community enrichment and educational initiatives that contribute to the economic development and quality of life in Henrietta.

The Henrietta Chamber of Commerce Business Person of the Year award was presented to Craig Jerabeck.  Craig is the president and CEO of 5Linx® Enterprises, Inc., a direct marketer of telecommunications products that provides services across the United States and in 20 countries abroad, creating opportunities for people to start their own businesses and change their lives.  5Linx®, supports social and not-for-profit activities through corporate donations, the See Your Troops Foundation, the Linx2Funds programs for non-profits, and the New York Says Thanks Foundation, which provides aid to disaster victims. The award is presented to a Henrietta business leader whose business, by its methods, appearance, stewardship, innovations, and ethics, serves as an example for other businesses.

The Business Excellence Award was presented to Vuzix Corporation.  Vuzix, founded in 1997, manufactures personal display devices for the entertainment, defense and medical markets.  Their products use micro-displays as small as ¼ inch that provide a virtual image similar to that of a full-size computer screen.  Their technology entered the commercial market with a line of video eyewear products branded as iWear that is being used with Apples’ iPods, MPEG players and their newest iPhones. Winning numerous industry awards in both the United States and Europe, it was named by the Democrat and Chronicle as the 12th fastest growing privately held company in Rochester.  This award is given to a business that has set a standard of accomplishment in the community.

The Economic Development Award was presented to High Tech of Rochester, Inc. (HTR).   High Tech Rochester is a not-for-profit economic development organization whose mission is to stimulate growth in Greater Rochester in the technology-based business sector.  It actively facilitates the identification, development and incubation of new and emerging business opportunities and works to improve the competitive position of our region’s established small manufacturing firms through product and process innovation. HTR continues to stimulate economic growth in the Henrietta area, currently housing 12 start-up companies.

The Award for Outstanding Facility Design and Construction was presented to Rivers Run.  This “Living Communities Development” is the new home to many active adults located on the Genesee River near RIT. Ten adjacent acres of wetlands are part of the property and are preserved forever as an asset to the community. The ponds and meadows include pathways that residents can enjoy. The property is a perfect example of sustainable landscaping in a setting that combines outstanding facility design with good environmental stewardship.  This award is to recognize new construction or maintenance of existing facilities that enhance the Henrietta area and encourages continued growth, restoration and/or environmental stewardship.

The Ernst J. Auerbacher Education Award went to the Science and Technology Entry Program (STEP), a grant-funded RIT partnership program with Rush-Henrietta Central School District, to provide academic enrichment and career exploration to underrepresented and economically disadvantaged students.  The Community Service Award went to Renna VanEpps, who established and oversees the operations of Angel Food Ministries, a food distribution program for families in need.  Finally, the Culture and Arts Award was presented to the Melbert B. Cary, Jr. Graphic Arts Collection at RIT, one of the country’s premier libraries concerning the history and practice of printing.

In addition, the Henrietta Chamber presented three William J. Welch Memorial Scholarships Rush-Henrietta Senior High students:  Jason Comstock, Jessica Lincoln, and Jasmine Mitchell for their outstanding academic achievement, school and community involvement and work experience.
